On November 12, 2021, the NPCA provided the Games with a permit to complete building the racecourse as a “passive recreational use” of the ravine. That term, “passive”, has a special meaning when permits are issued for the exploitation of protected areas. It means there should not be damage to the ecosystem; and mountain bike “racing”, especially, is anything but “passive”. We have informed the NPCA of our concerns about the permit, as we believe they have relied upon information that is incomplete and inaccurate, provided by the Games and their partners. We will be publishing information on our website to support our claims and rally the Niagara community to take action to oppose the continued construction of this unecessary new trail system, and protect our environment.
